Agroforestry is gaining importance in Flanders as a sustainable agricultural practice. A policy day emphasized the need for a clear policy framework and the support of new agroforestry advisors.

Agroforestry continues to gain importance in Flanders as a sustainable agricultural practice that combines food production with benefits for climate, nature, water, and landscape. During Cambium's policy day on September 10, farmers, researchers, and policymakers discussed the further development of agroforestry in Flanders and the Netherlands.
A key conclusion from that day was that agroforestry needs a clear, coherent, and legally secure policy framework. Opportunities exist at various administrative levels to better support this form of agriculture and thus stimulate its further rollout.
In addition to policy development, Cambium also focuses on supporting farmers. A new cohort of agroforestry advisors recently completed their training and are ready to assist farmers with questions regarding tree selection, management, mechanization, regulations, and profitability.
More information about the policy day's recommendations, guidance for agroforestry on your farm, an overview of the trained advisors, and the Agroforestry Map with services in your region can be found on the Agroforestry Vlaanderen website.
