POM Antwerpen is coordinating the upgrade of the Terbekehof business park in Wilrijk, a 13 million euro project integrating infrastructure renewal, sustainable water management, and energy provisions. The redevelopment of Elektronikalaan, Mechanicalaan, and Fotografielaan aims to better protect the site against waterlogging and prepare it for the future. 85% of the investment is subsidized by VLAIO.
This third and final phase builds on previous investments in areas like Terbekehofdreef and Dynamicalaan, aiming to create a modern, sustainable, and attractive environment for growing businesses. Luk Lemmens, deputy and chairman of POM Antwerpen, highlighted the importance of business parks as economic engines and the added value of collaboration between organizations.
The official start of the works on Fotografielaan was marked by partners POM Antwerpen, Stad Antwerpen, Water-Link, Aquafin, Sweco, Fluvius, and Rega Infra. The project addresses outdated infrastructure dating back to the seventies.
Ken Casier, alderman for Public Domain and chairman of Water-Link, explained that a fully separated sewage system for wastewater and rainwater will be implemented. The new water system focuses on maximizing the capture, buffering, and controlled flow of rainwater, with the installation of large rainwater pipes and smart control structures. This contributes to a climate-resilient environment and reduces the risk of waterlogging.
The combination of investments in public domain, water infrastructure, and energy provisions, such as the installation of a heating network by Fluvius in Elektronikalaan, minimizes disruption for businesses and road users. The works, scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, represent the final phase of the Terbekehof business park's upgrade.
