The Ghent region, with campuses of UGent, leading research centers like imec and VIB, and various companies, has become an attractive location for innovative tech companies and R&D departments. Tech Lane Ghent Science Park aims to meet the growing demand for infrastructure and foster an ecosystem with strong interaction between start-ups, knowledge institutions, and multinational research departments. The business park is under full development, with various R&D facilities being realized.
With the opening of The Nucleus, research and innovation capacities are significantly expanded, giving the site a central beating heart. The 28-meter-high building is designed to facilitate easy encounters between researchers, entrepreneurs, and employees from different companies, creating a close-knit community. The lower floors are accessible to everyone, bringing together general facilities such as a restaurant, meeting rooms, and event locations. The Nucleus is designed as a flexible building capable of accommodating short-term and long-term layout changes, with a strong emphasis on circularity through reusable and energy-efficient materials.
The multifunctional building The Nucleus at the Tech Lane Ghent business park in Zwijnaarde has been officially opened. It serves as a central meeting point, bringing together high-quality office and laboratory spaces with shared facilities like a restaurant and meeting rooms. The Nucleus addresses the rapid growth of the science park. In addition to shared facilities, the building offers flexible office and lab spaces that can be customized to user needs. A significant portion of the research space is currently occupied by the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Pharmaceutical Engineering (CESPE), an innovation platform for developing future medicines. The presence of CESPE supports the ambition of The Nucleus and the science park to further establish the Ghent region as an international hub for pharma, biotech, cleantech, and healthtech companies or R&D activities.
The Nucleus will be the beating heart of the rapidly growing Tech Lane Ghent, where researchers, entrepreneurs, and employees will meet and collaborate. This place for cross-pollination was made possible through strong cooperation among all partners, providing an impulse for innovation and organic growth of a strong community.
