Entrepreneurs in Leuven contributing to a climate-neutral and climate-resilient policy can now turn to the new Leuven Climate Fund for Entrepreneurs. This initiative, a collaboration between Stad Leuven, Leuven 2030, and trividend, offers loans up to €250,000, supplemented with guidance and network access.

Many companies face financing hurdles when scaling their operations, despite having a strong business plan or product. The Leuven Climate Fund aims to support these businesses that demonstrably contribute to Leuven's climate objectives. By 2030, the fund aspires to provide up to €2 million in loans to approximately twenty organizations.
Alderman for climate Thomas Van Oppens emphasizes the importance of entrepreneurs for Leuven's climate ambition: "We need not only ambitious governments and engaged citizens, but also entrepreneurs developing innovative solutions. With this fund, we support companies making a difference, but who cannot always find financing through traditional channels."
The fund provides loans between €25,000 and €250,000, with entrepreneurs not needing to provide personal guarantees. Examples of supported projects include developing new technologies for efficient data center cooling or innovative methods for energy and resource reuse.
Alderman for economy Lalynn Wadera sees this new fund as a continuation of the earlier Leuven Entrepreneurs Fund (LEF), but with a specific focus on climate solutions. "We want to help strong ideas grow into strong companies, thereby accelerating the climate transition and creating new economic activity."
In addition to financing, the fund offers substantive guidance, follow-up, and access to expertise and networks. trividend analyzes the applications, makes investment decisions, and supports the companies. For businesses not yet investment-ready, Leuven 2030 provides support in developing their plans.
Filip Coenen of Leuven 2030 adds: "As a facilitator of the transition to a climate-neutral Leuven, we continuously strive to lower barriers and increase positive impact. The Climate Fund for Entrepreneurs is a powerful initiative through which we hope to make a significant difference."
The fund's first call focuses on companies active in energy and energy transition, circular economy, and sustainable and resilient food systems. Additional points are awarded for contributions to social inclusion or employment. Both start-ups and growing SMEs are eligible, including those not based in Leuven if they contribute to local climate goals.
Applications can be submitted until November 12, 2026, via www.leuvensklimaatfonds.be. trividend assesses the applications, which are then presented to an independent investment committee. The fund will remain open for new applications after this initial call.
The Leuven Climate Fund for Entrepreneurs was established with support from the European ESF program, in collaboration with trividend, Switchrs, Baltic Innovation Agency, and Purpose from Germany.
